If I am having tinned toms with breakfast I have Napolina. If it is to go in sauces I have the cheapest going. Natco (I think) are 4 for £1 in our local TFC.

Apparently although the Napolina brand is Princes..their tomatoes are "grown on the sun drenched slopes of Puglia.." so is it important who cans them and where?

Yep, it says on Napolina tins 'Produce of Italy' so, they're still Italian tomatoes, even if the company isn't.

I picked up 3 tins of "la caterina" italian peeled tomatoes for a £ in Poundword today. They are made in italy and are one of the brands that this group produces:

Used to love Napolina tomatoes but cant justify the price any more, even at 50p a tin. Aldi's Sweet Harvest tomatoes are a great substitute though IMO at 35p, always nice red whole toms or big chunks in the chopped variety and a lovely thick sauce, not watery. The worst toms I bought were Sainsburys value brand in the tetra packs - chopped so small it was more of a tomato sludge, loads of green bits and so thin and watery, wont buy em again.

I agree I love the Aldi tinned toms, both the chopped and the plum ones. The tinned plum ones are good enough to eat with a cooked brekkie, just a min to warm through in the microwave (out of the tine of course lol). I also like the tubs of passata from Aldi that are only 29p. I do like the cirio ones as well and will get them when on offer-think Asda did them before crimbo at 4 for £1 so got loads, but nice to know can always fall back on Aldi.

so can't buy Flora again, cos it's not fancy enough any more!

Maybe that explains why it's been on offer in Iceland! I bought a few tubs I'm no shop snob.

Napolina is a total rip off, a 'fake' italian brand, but expensive. Cirio is the best 'real' italian brand I can find in the UK (real as in the stuff you find in Italian supermarkets, not the crxp they send abroad....If you have tried twining tea abroad you'll know what I mean :D ).
