If Igive my account details to someone to make a payment to me, can that person access my account and use it? I am a little cautious about letting this particular person knowmy details.....but I am owed money. Please advise, thank you.

If you meant account number and sort code. Then, yes thats fine. If your really suspicious of them, keep an eye on your direct debits. In theory they could setup a direct debit with your information.0

Jeremy Clarkson famously gave out his bank details, claiming that it was safe. Somebody told a charity to set up a DD to take money from his account.
There are other firms that will take DD instructions with little or no attempt to ensure that the person they're dealing with is the owner of the account, and maybe without being too sure of his identity.
Best to open a savings account and give out the details for that. Many banks have an internet saver that can be opened very quickly and easily, at least by existing customers, and will accept BACS payments."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -
