HP 950c printer wont work on Win7

Having problems with deskjet 950c printer on my Sony Vaio laptop (NW20ES) running Windows 7. Hooked up the printer via usb cable, saw the symbol indicating driver was successfully installed, checked this again on device manager under printers and all good. However when i hit the print button get an error on the printer stating "printing error"! Checked with HP.com support for my printer and noted that Windows 7 already has the correct driver so it should load automatically (which it did). Googled for possible answer with no luck. Tried uninstall and re install driver couple times but still get same error. Any one know whats going on and how to resolve this frustrating issue?? Cheers

Have you tried a manual install of the driver? unfortunately I am not allowed to post links so I can only describe how to get there.
go to the HP website. select support and drivers. click drivers and software and enter your printer Deskjet 950c and click search , next screen enter your windows 7 op sys and click next. now towards the second half of the screen expand + driver product installation software. you see Installing the Product with the USB Cable . click this link, this gets you to a screen headed
The Driver for Your Product Is Included in the Windows 7 Operating System. in frequently asked questions, what can I do if the driver installation failed. click the link. Windows 7 Update Failed to Install the Driver

step 4 explains how to install manually. you need to do steps 1-3 first of course. furthermore at the bottom of this page there is a link to hp forums perhaps you can find some help there if this does not work.
