American Themed Box/Hamper/items?

hey everyone!

im thinking of creating american themed presents for my sister. she went to new york afew years back for her birthday and she adored it. shes asked for a new york duvet cover which i have got for her birthday (2 weeks before xmas) so i was thinking of doing her american theme?

the only thing i can think of is hersey bars? i can get these from a local shop at £1.99 each.

  • Go to Asda as they get quite a few American chocolate bars. Reeces cups, hersey kisses etc. Also don't forget oreos! Oh and M&M's!

BHS have a lot of coke cola presents. I wouldn't pay full price for them but they usually have a sale before xmas. Or get a retro coke glass from McD's and add a can of it! Also Budwiser often has xmas gift sets if she drinks or Jack Daniels.

Amazon also sell American food: http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=american+food&x=0&y=0

Also if you have one nearby Selfridges is good for American goodies :-)

Maybe a little snowglobe or a novelty hat, a cuddly turkey (maybe a little random but its what popped into my mind:D). A book on amercian history, or a book full of profressional USA photos. An american slang book. Does she have a TGI Fridays near her? If she does you could get some type of meal voucher for her.

Dh loves american candy etc - I cant stand them personally but I am putting together a box of it for him - www.cybercandy.co.uk has a few useful bits on it - also saw in Asda at weekend pots of marshmallow fluff like marshamallow spread - this is £1.50 or so in there but online much dearer - worth bearing in mind!!

What about some DVDs of films set in NYC? You can probably get them for a few pounds off Amazon, so wouldn't bust your budget to put in a couple. I don't know what genre of film she likes, but some ideas could be Breakfast at Tiffanys, Sex and the City, Manhattan, Wall Street, Taxi Driver, When Harry Met Sally, etc.

Oh, and I have a framed print on my wall that I got from a pretty cheap shop, it is a black and white shot of Grand Central Station. If you go somewhere that sells those cheap prints they often have pics of NYC, eg of the Manhattan skyline, and then you can put it in a cheap but nice frame and it will look quite classy (imo).

  • Wilkinsons and Next usually have some good New York themed prints.

How about a book of New York/American photography? There must be loads of those 'coffee table' style books out there.
  • thank you everyone. all very good ideas! will get searching now :) x
