Save the Dates....?

Hello!
Just wanted some ideas etc on Save the Dates, so wondered if anyone had any ideas or experiences about them!
We were thinking of sending some out with our Christmas cards (We get married June 2012)... but not sure if that's too early / late!
So I was wondering:
* Did you send out save the dates?
* How far in advance did you send them?
* What did you send?
We want something fairly cheap and simple - possibly a stamp on a luggage tag with a pretty bit of ribbon... or something. But we've not made up our mind yet!!
Thanks in advance!

We sent ours out in May and we are getting married in Feb, vistaprint is god when it comes to this, we got 250 business card size ones for free and only paid postage, you can design your own for as little as £1 or use their own templates, we have done loads through them and it has saved us an absolute fortune.0

I've heard some negative reviews of Vistaprint, so have stayed away... but will have a look after your suggestion! I've already given some out for the day guests but some of them already know when the wedding is through word of mouth so don't need lots

I bought some small cheap blank cards with a nice picture on the front. Wote inside - 'SAVE THE DATE, xxxxx and xxxxxx are getting married!' then put the date of our wedding. For the evening guests I've added 'for an evening reception' at the bottom.
I don't think Christmas is too early to send them out but I sent them out when I did (8/9 months before) as some of my family go on holiday more than once a year and I'll be sending out formal invites in March. I really like your idea.....not long now! :jSPC 9 # 5360 -
we ordered loads from them and although the postage can take a while we have never had any problems, we got save the date cards, invites, banners, thank you cards, and magnets and they are all brilliant, you could do a simple business card like below and then trim the corners

I used Vistaprint for my invitations, day and evening, and place cards and thank you cards. DH also uses them for his business cards and postcards. Never had any trouble with them and their prices are great.
I never sent a single save the date card...I e-mailed people or just did it the old fashioned way and told them! Tbh I find it amazing how save-the-dates seem to generate so much angst in people - it is perfectly possible to have a great wedding without them!0 -
I used vistaprint too, I got magnets, if you use the website https://www.vistaprint.biz/free2011 you can get free magnets, postcards plus more. You do pay for postage though. It should be worth noting that you can only order 25 free magnets at once but if you type the address again you can get more free. I got 50 and paid £5.70 total postage.
I'm getting married July 2013 and will send mine out next Christmas. I only bought them now since they were free.0 -
I just emailed or told people the date and are about to order invites from vistaprint. We emailed family first to check dates and make sure the most important people will be there.
