Using credit card for online purchase

in Credit cards
Hey guys,
I want to make a purchase online (using paypal) and it's quite a bit of money. I was wondering if there's really advantage on using the credit card rather than the debit card.
The seller seems genuine but still I'm a bit concerned on things like if I'm not happy with the product or it's not what he was claiming it to be. I read online that there's a section 75 about disputing purchases with credit cards. I'd like to know more about it, and if any of you guys got problems buying online and had problem with the seller but got the money back because of that section 75.
thanks

i try to not use a debit card online, due to fraud a debit card is far more problematic to sort out,
ie your bank account might get blocked and you will have no access to money, whereas a credit card will not impact this.
If your paying via paypal then paypal will give resolution to a case.0 -
I'm fairly sure you'll lose Section 75 protection if you purchase via PayPal as it's a third person contract. If you have any doubts at all, which you clearly do, you need to make the purchase directly to the company (or at least part payment).
I'm sure someone will confirm this for me.
Best of luck0 -
no section 75 applys to yours onlyDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Not really.

It's also worth noting that sellers can say they accept credit cards even if they don't have an online merchant's account to process them. For one of my purchases, a real world mom-and-pop store had a credit card terminal in their shop and wanted me to phone them with my CC details. :eek:This is everybody's fault but mine.0 -

Relatively safe, if it's understood that the same shop will supply the goods - ie they are in the contract thus engaging s75.
If something goes wrong, it is relatively easy to get a CC to reverse the transaction.
If it's put through the shop without your knowledge (ie you thought the trader had the facility) then it's unauthorised.0 -
There is supposed to be protection through paying by paypal (recently changed and increased according to an email they sent me) but I've never had to use it so I don't know how easy it is to claim. Try reading their terms and conditions and see if your transaction will be covered.
I've only had a problem on ebay once, I went through their complaints procedure and ebay refunded my money without any problems. I did have to ask the seller and give them time to resolve it first, so it took about a month before I got my money back (and it was only about £10) but they do have procedures in place to protect both buyers and sellers from fraud.0 -
Section 75 would be difficult to action if you pay by Paypal as they are a third party in the transaction and there will be no debtor/creditor relationship. You're not paying the seller directly, you're asking Paypal to pass the money on to them for you. As Paypal debit your account, and they have done what you ask them to do (move the money) they have fulfilled their part of the contract therefore there is no breach.0
