Changing From Economy 7 to Standard Rate

Options
We are currently with British Gas (Dual Fuel) and want to switch to EBICo (Dual Fuel).
Our house used to have Storage Heaters but we changed them to Radiators/Combi-Boiler a few years ago.

My question is this:
As our current meter has Day and Night Readings, would we be able to switch to the General tariff with EBICo (NOT the Economy 7 tariff) without having to change the meter?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Little....EBICO (Southern) wanted to charge me £40.
Eventually got it free under their Careline service but if you want them to amalgamate the day and night rate (on the existing meter) to the new day rate, you may have to argue.
Rather think they are inundated with new customers.

I was on E7 with BG and changed to a 'normal' tariff with BG. I kept the same meter and they simply combine the 2 readings as Ken above indicates.

It might be an idea to change with BG to normal and as soon as that is in place* then change to Ebico.

*The way BG accounts dept is currently working, that could take some time!
  • Thanks for the replies.

I also e-mailed EBICo, who said that I can either get the meter changed now by British Gas or switch to them and then get the meter changed (depending on how much work needed doing, it could be free or cost anything up to £40).

For someone with a large electric bill, might be worth more investigation, e.g. change lifestyle.
A shift worker ,say, on permanent mornings would gain.
Or even a couple working long daytime hours could change their sleep pattern.

A lot depends on the "off peak" times as to the amount you use it.
    I use mine quite a lot as it`s 1am to 8am
    Always up by 6-30am

I'm with Ebico and I just switched from E7 to standard rate. Bit of a nightmare as a series of powercuts during last Novembers storms killed my old E7 meter and I had two more fail to keep time.
Anyway, I have an outside 'cupboard' arrangement for my meter, which is mounted on a wooden board. On changeover it was just a case of changing meters and moving a few wires. 10 minutes and free.

If you have a meter that is easily accessable and wired in less than 35 years ago it should be free.

BTW, it isn't Ebico that do the work it is the old local electricity board.
    Regards
