Wedding in 6 days, utterly depressed

Sorry for this depressing post but I don't know what to do or who to speak to anymore. I talk to OH but I don't think he knows what to say anymore apart from trying to comfort me. Parents are making me feel worse about everything :(

4 weeks ago I started to feel ill, horrible stomach cramps and constant abdominal pain. Went to doctor, put on antibiotics for a UTI as I was also having those symptoms (although more internal than external pain). Went back to doctor as still in pain but not the same pain. Given 3 month course of antibiotics to keep things at bay, told to come back if pain persists. Pain is still there, seem to have similar symptoms of IBS. Going back to doctor on Tuesday (only day available to see the doctor who actually helps me, the other one is incompetent and told me the problem is 'the wedding'. It isn't, I've barely any stress about the wedding!).

I feel so down and depressed. It's just not fair, I was so excited about the wedding and looking forward to it. Now I'm ill and I think it will be likely I need tests to rule out anything majorly wrong with me. Which scares me even more. How the hell do I enjoy my honeymoon knowing what awaits me afterwards? I'm so scared. There may not be anything bad wrong with me, could just be IBS or something.

My mum made me feel crap this evening. I've been having these problems on and off for the last 2 years and gone to doctor each time (2 times told it could be an infected ovary) and she told me 'well you've had 2 years to sort this out'. !!!!!!. She's normally great and supportive but that was just uncalled for.

I don't need this crap 6 days before the wedding. Trying to watch what I eat to see if it will help but getting worse rather than better.

It's so unfair!!!!!!!

aww hun that does sound bad - can't believe your mum was so insensitive! If you were really excited about the wedding I'd try and focus on that, I felt quite depressed in the lead up to my wedding (for different reasons than you) so can emphasise.
If it were me I'd try and see it as if there was something seriously wrong it would have been picked up by now, if it is IBS its treatable/managable and either way the time until you get your results is going to pass - might as well have a great wedding and honeymoon in the interim!
  • I get terrible IBS even when I don't think I am stressed! I must be subconsciously worrying!! You must be slightly out of sorts waiting for your big day.

As the previous poster said, if there was something wrong they would have found out long ago!

I know it is easier said than done but you are probably making it worse at the moment - just relax a little, enjoy every moment and stop worrying. (I am the worlds worst)!!

Good luck for your wedding - you will find it all melts away when you are enjoying married life on your honeymoon.

Endometreosis is apparently misdiagnosed as IBS quite frequently as it has similar symptoms I think. If you're going to your doctors anyway maybe just mention this and ask if they think it could be that? I hope you feel better soon and have a great day.

My friend had awful stomach pains for a few years and was diagnosed with endometreosis, she had an operation and continues to have treatment and medicine for it and it's got alot better. She is now pregnant and due in February so it hasn't effected her having a baby as it can for some people. Hope you have a lovely day :)

  • stop worrying, you have a bad case of IBS that's very easy to fix and manage. What wont be helping is the stress that you are putting on your self. Let it go, enjoy your wedding and your honey moon and just remember your coming back to a new life as a married woman. Not tests........your going to be fine and have a wonderful time

If there are a few doctors in the practice, just change doctor. In our local practice, there are 3 doctors, 2 brilliant, one is pants!

Not much immediate help I am afraid but another competent doctor may offer some hope/help.

All the very best for your big day.

Endemetriosis would be worse at the time of the month, because it's bits of the lining of the womb which have broken off, floated around and attahed somewhre, but it still sheds on a monthly basis, causing the pain. I suffered with this terribly for 10 years, resulting in a hysterectomy at age 30.

Do the pains get worse if you're eating rich or fatty foods?
I had gall stones, and suffered with intense abdominal pains for a year before it turned into pancreatitis, i was admitted and had my gall bladder removed. If I ate bland, healthy foods, i coud keep the pain at bay...

I know this is advice easily given, but the more upset you are about being ill, the worse you will feel.....
Lots of hot baths, hot water bottles and early nights - leaving lists of jobs for your OH to do, and concentrate on getting YOU better enough to enjoy your special day!

I will be thinking about you, and praying for you to feel better and enjoy the day..... you're getting married as i'm heading to Heathrow to jet off to Cyprus!
    lots of love, and hugs

I am sorry to hear your in pain and its so close to your wedding thats really carp. I get ibs now after i had my gallbladder out a few years ago. To many crisps or fatty foods or to much dairy seems to be my trigger as well as stress. In moderation i am fine. I sometimes feel slightly swollen around bladder area but the last time i did a sample for dr they found nothing. Saying that i have found drinking ocean spray plain cranberry a small glass a day keeps me feeling well. Its supposed to stop bacteria clinging to your bladder . Its got to be worth a go this close. If you don't like the taste i know a lot of people don't try microwaving it for a minute its lovely hot!

Last year i had unexplained pain around bowel/ovaries I have had my ovaries checked with an ultrasound and awhile later a lovely tube up somewhere horrid and they found nothing but pain went after that so i really can sympathise.

I really hope you feel better soon

    massive cyber hugs xxx
  • Thanks everyone. Feeling a bit better after a bath. I have a history of anxiety and depression so I tend to jump to the most morbid conclusions of what's wrong with me at times! Pushing myself to ignore the pains just now til I can see the doctor, the one who actually helps me. x

If you can afford it/find someone who is free to do it at short notice can you get booked in for a massage. I am a strong believer in if your totally relaxed pain is not so bad. There are some brilliant therapists about and your a bride and your worth it ;).
