Idea for overnight stay in UK?

Hi- ideally like to go away night of Mon 12th Feb (but some flexibility either side) with partner. Live in Manchester so somewhere not more than 3hrs journey With sea or nice countryside for walk. Tried the £15 travelodge rooms but was too late to book.

With much thanks Urk

    Hello
Last year my wife and i went to Ambleside in the Lake District for an overnight stay, it's only a couple of hours drive and has lovely sceneri on the way. There are plenty of good value B&B's, good walks and some good pubs. If you go i would recommend giving the Jazz Lounge a look in as it's got a great atmosphere and nice food. Only problem is the waether however coming from Manchester myself i didn't find that a problem.

What about Chester or York - neither very far away from you but lots to do - sometimes is the close places that we forget to look at.

North Wales is also nice for walking etc

or for fantastic scenery (no sea though) the peak district is gorgeous - I'd recommend Ashbourne or Bakewell........both really nice.

well I cannot recommend http://www.cornlee.co.uk/index.html highly enough, 2 hrs from Manchester
It's only a b&b but the couple that run the place are absolutely fantastic!
We arrived at four in the afternoon after a walk and there was a HUGE homemade tea laid on, scones, homemade bikkies, cakes etc. Breakfast was fantastic too, all made freshly and homemade. (I like my food :D)
They could simply not do enough for us.
We ate at the pub over the road which is lovely, one of those real alse pubs that also serve fantastic food and pride themselves on it (an independent). We went walking the next day too and then spent the afternoon having chips in Wensleydale :D

Aysgarth is magnificent and at that time of the year the falls will be amazing,

if you go, let me know how you go on.

Here is a great walk which also incoroprates a castle (not sure if it'd be open though so you'd have to check:

The b&b owners also have a second walk incorporating

Which they can photocopy for you.

And don;t forget a visit to

The Lakes is an obvious choice from Manchester (only an hour and a half to get to South Cumbria)... as is Chester. Liverpool has a new Malmaison if you were looking for a nearby city break.
