Ms frontpage help needed - size of the website

Hi, I ve created my website i Frontpage 2002, but some of the sites are too large - Where can I set the size of the page so it is in the middle of the screen and on both sides it has margain of lets say 2cm? I would also like to set the margain background different to the background of the site, how can I do it please?
Also I have created my own buttons, which appear ok off line, but when the site is up and running the graphics of teh buttons dissapear, why is that? the buttons are in the same folder as the rest of the elements of the site and they are uploaded as well so not sure where I ve gone wrong? any ideas? thanks in advance for any help!!

Where is the site you have uploaded?
  • You want your website to be the viewing size of 1024x768 because the are more people running at that resolution. Also remember the 4 second rule - if it takes longer then your vistors will exit.

    any more ideas?advice?
  • The buttons sound likeyou have not put them on teh web site or if you look at teh HTML code it will point to something like c:\doucment...... which is wrong for websites

Remeber a webpage and websites are not the same as a book or individual pages.....i would personally ditch FP2002, and use notepad and learn HTML.

and the guy who mention 1024 by 768 is correct in the UK and western world will display pages at 1024 by 768 very well. Other devices such as mobile phones and PDA my struggle.

    I would read up on
HTML, and CSS (Cascading style sheets)

I am unfamiliar with frontpage, but sounds like you haven't uploaded your button images. They would then show fine in preview but not on your online site.

Centering your pages and sizes should be changed in properties... I tend to do pages in % not pixels, they will then stretch to suit the screen, an example is google.

To centre stuff on frontpage is easy all you have to do is select all text and click the center alignment icon at the top like word, mind you if using tables just center aling the table firstly also if inserting a table when you insert the table you will be asked what alignment you would like to set.

Also if inserting custom buttons try to make sure you change the default folder and use the images folder so in other words if inserting a picture or custom button and you save the webpage make sure at the prompt you change to the images folder then change.

Now with the size of the website itself if you create a page or web and use a theme that would be set by default so dont worry about that but if doing a web free hand insert a table first the right click the table and then select table properties and set the width to 96% and height to 100% and this will give you a site that will fit into most resolution sizes but will be as long as the text so no need for loads of scrolling up and down a page when published.

Either you havent uploaded the images in the same file structure or frontpage has put in the physical path rather than the relational one.

As to the backgrounds/ formatting. There are lots of different ways to achieve what you want from the traditional table HTML method to the modern CSS & Divs. I would suggest that you do a google on CSS as there are hundreds of good free tutorials on how to format webpages

Oh yeah not to forget if you ftp a frontpage site instead of publishing from frontpage you may indeed break all your links and any DHTL effects as ftp breaks frontpage extensions needed for some content, if your webspace supports extensions and ftp'ing from a ftp program like smartftp or cuteftp
