Using Macbook with projector.

I managed to set up my 3 year old Macbook with a projector but it does a split screen thing which means I cannot see what is being projected on the computer. Is there a simple way to change this?

  • There may (depending on exact model) be a symbol on one of the function buttons that looks like 2 screens slightly behind each other. You can use that to alter what is being output. Other wise go into the system preferences panel, choose displays and you should find the settings in there.

Thanks, not in displays. F3 has several squares inside another, is this it. Projector in use elsewhere at the moment.

I guess that's the mid 2009 Macbook going by Apple Support (the only 2.13GHz CPU I can find)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP512
which means that you have the NVidia 9400 graphics. That's good.
It supports extending the desktop (you have the desktop on your laptop, then the 2nd monitor (your projector) is an extension of it) - what you have now
    OR
Video mirroring (external monitor (or projector) simply shows what you have on the screen) - this is what you want.
You haven't mentioned what version of OSX you're running, but it's similar for all - go into System Preferences and then Displays - there may be a tick box somewhere in the first screen you see, or there may be a 'tab' (along the top) for the extra display that you'll go into to select mirroring, or DEselect 'extend desktop onto this display' or similar. The extra tab, if that's what you need, will only appear when everything's connected. Let us know if that helps.

Yes, as above. It took me a while the first time to find the check box to mirror displays. Much too used the PC where it is relatively easy to project from your laptop.
