it must be posh were you live
where i am if you go to a swimming party the children get a packet of 10p crisps and a cheap drink to take homeGive blood - its free0 -
It's not posh but i think other parents must just have loads more money than we do (get fed up of struggling sometimes, but as long as the kids are happy eh)0

Would it be meanspirited to suggest no presents but a plate of party food instead ...That's Numberwang!0

Would love to say that just to see their faces...but think my girl would be dissapointed.0

I expect they will be pretty hungry after swimming, so sandwiches, sausage rolls etc. sounds fine so long as there are lots of them!
Is there an electric socket in the hired room? If so could you borrow a plug-in table-top hostess trolley type thing? Not the cabinet ones, the ones that just sit on a worktop and accommodate two decent sized serving dishes.
That would open up a lot more possibilities, e.g. you could do some jacket spuds beforehand, and a big bowl of baked beans, chilli or curry. Bring it all to the venue and keep it warm while they swim. You could also bring some grated vegetarian cheese if the chosen filling is non-veggie, and some butter. Maybe a bowl of salad (couple of shredded iceberg lettuces, sliced cucumber and half a dozen large tomatoes cut into 8 wedges each) and a couple of crusty french sticks too.
About £1.00 a head max I'd think.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

could you get party boxes and then put a sandwich, sausage roll, carton of drink, bit of cheese, bit of fruit etc etc for each child? That way it's dead easy to prepare in advance, there will be hardly any waste and they can take their muffin cake home in it too?
(like the idea of the muffin! We did pumpkin plants for my DD's last party, REALLY cheap and almost everyone had an enormous pumpkin for Halloween 4 months later!:D )0 -
Love pumpkin plant idea..pity its the wrong time of year.0

I like the idea of boxes too. I was thinking, you could do a kind of home-made version of lunchables - ready cut bits of cheese, ham, mini sausages, tomato sauce, mini pitta breads, crackers, etc.0
