Car insurance for a shorter period than a year?
In November 2005 I knocked a cyclist of her bike - completely my fault. Luckily she was unhurt and after taking my registration number and giving me a good verbal going over, understandably, she rode off.
I drove to nearest police station to report the accident and also informed my insurance company. No claim has been made since then although the incident has to sit on my file for two years apparently. At the end of the two years my insurance company told me that if no claim had been made I could have my no claims bonus restored.
Two questions arise from this.
1) Does what my insurance company tiold me about getting the no claims bonus restored sound right?
2) My insurance is due for renewal in May. Obviously I have no No Clams at present because of this potential claim sitting on my file. Is it possible to take out shorter term insurance up to November when, hopefully, the potential claim lapses and my No Claims will be restored?
Thanks.

No reliance should be placed on the above.
