Can I cancel an order

Last Thursday (3 days ago) I ordered a kitchen from Howdens including white goods and paid for same with my credit card at the outlet closest to me after being persuaded by the kitchen fitter I had engaged that the kitchens were good value and he would pass on half his discount to me. I was concerned about the price but went ahead (entirely my own stupidity). However I have now researched the white goods (Lamona) and the general viewpoint is that these are not good value. I would like to cancel the kitchen order or, if this is not possible, at least the white goods but unsure whether now I have paid for all the items, I can legally do so. I tried to cancel the white goods yesterday morning but the Howdens outlet where I paid advised I needed to contact the gentleman who gave me the quote and I was unable to reach him on Saturday. I did send an email but will not receive a response until tomorrow. If there is nothing I can do it so be it but I would be grateful for any advice.

You have no contract with Howdens, The fitter does, this will be based on business contract law and not consumer law. The cancellation will be based on the fitters contract terms with Howdens.
As it is, you wouldn't have the right to cancel because you changed your mind, price is not an option which would allow you to cancel. You now rely on Howdens T&C's google them and see what they say.

I've just had a similar issue with a credit card purchase. I can't post links but if you type SECTION75 into the main search bar at the top of this page - there's an article provided by Martin Lewis on getting refunds when using a credit card.

    Why no contract?
The OP went to the Howdens depot and ordered and paid for the goods themselves.

I have purchased stuff from Howdens before and obtained a trade discount by giving the details of the people working for me, but both times I was required to pay for the goods and sign the order form.

No the fitter ordered the goods, the op only paid for them. Howdens do not deal with the general public.

Yes they do. (well, the branches at Redhill and Crawley certainly do)
They may state "trade only" on their buildings, but in practice anyone can walk in and pay at the counter without obtaining a trade discount.

Well they wont deal with the general public at our branch locally, under any circumstances.

and we will never, ever return.

Thankyou so much for all the responses. The fitter initially rang Howdens who came out to measure my kitchen immediately. I then went to the local depot to look at some of the items. I did query which brand supplied Lamona white goods. I was advised they were well known brands but allowed Howdens to use the name of Lamona. I was somewhat dubious but eventually went ahead. I took the quote I had been emailed together with my credit card and paid for the items again at my local branch. I was only asked to sign for the credit card payment (their card machine was out of order). However it does appear that I must continue with the order. It is an expensive learning curve but at least I will do my research before ordering anything in future.

I am grateful for all the replies.
