Hi, So I've done what the government wants me to do and got a job in another city (too far away to commute). It doesn't start for another month and obviously I have to move house during this time. Complication is that I probably have to move house on a day when I sign on. Te Jobcentre are telling me that I will have to sign off before I move. Am I just going to have to suck it up and lose 2 weeks JSA? This seems unfair. Anyone know?

I did exactly this about six years ago.
I seem to recall that the job center staff were so impressed that i was prepared to move, that they made sure I didn't lose out.
Hope it happens this way for you.0 -
You need to transfer your claim to the new office - but you MUST do this before you are due to sign on at the old one otherwise it's not possible to do and you will have to close your claim and reclaim at the new office.
Ask for a live transfer, but speak to your new office and not the old one. Do be aware that the sooner you do this after signing at the old office, the less likely it is that you'll be paid late. Do it on the day you're due to sign and your payments will be affected and there's nothing the JCP at either end will be able to do about it.0 -
Thanks very much, that's really helpful - they didn't tell me that!0

If you move on the day you sign on, sign at the Jobcentre closest to your new home. Or the ideal situation phone your new closest Jobcentre from where you are now and book a live transfer appointment on your signing day.
You don't have to sign off before you move.0
