I had 3 points on my licence. after 4 years i filed in the relevant form to obtain a new photocard licence and I had a new address. They did it for free.

Because I had a change of address they said that they will not charge me for the removal of the points as the change of address was free anyway. I can't remember if you have to pay for a new photocard or not, but my change from my old paper licence to a new photocard was done for free as well.

Basically what the DVLA told me was that if you have a change of name or address, as they normally do this for free, you can also request that they remove any expired points/new photocard - basically anything which you have to pay for and they will do it all for free. You do not even have to send them a cheque.
    Great so it IS true.

I've been points free for 2 years now (or maybe it's 3). Anyway, I recently moved, so this is good news.

Yes if they have expired and you move they are removed free usually. A friend didn't move but changed his address to Mother's home and back again and they removed his free. Cost him the price of 2 stamps. I wouldn't advocate this of course, just saying what happened. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/EndorsementsAndDisqualifications/DG_4022550 think that guide should say when endorsements of different types expire. I got my Photocard one free when I changed address when I confirmed passing my test (previously had paper one)
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

I had 3 points for OVER SPEEDING (doing 98 mph  ) 1 year back.

Is it true that when i change my address. The points will be removed.

    Please advice....

    :A

No. You will have the apparent £19 fee, which I have never heard off, returned to you.

And by the way, speeding at 98mph is nothing to be proud of. In fact, its totally stupid and you deserve your 3 points.
  • Why would you need them taking off anyway. I don't want one of these photocards. My paper one is good for another 40 years!

I had 3 on my license but I also had a spare licence (for some reason I got sent to paper licences years ago). When we go on holiday I always take the spare so that as far as the car hire company is concerned I never had the points to begin with.

Can you apply for the photo ID licences and if so at what cost?

please remember the points are technically off your licence after the 3 year period - if you had 9 points 4 years ago, and get another 6 now, you only have 6 regardless of what your paper licence says.

i did send my licence of for a change of address long after my points were due for removal, didn't mentioned the points just filled out a hange of address form, - they removed the points free, but unless you care what your paper licence says it doesn't really matter.
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
