How long will Tax credit update take?

Hi
Does anyone know how long it might take the Tax credit people update my tax credits? I sent them a letter 2 weeks ago about my daughter being in post 16 education.
Will they back date?
I only ask because I don't know whether to ring up as well.
Thanks for any replies.

They won't backpay, but they will give you an extra £1 per week until the end of tax year... well that is what happened to all of us on here that had our tax credits stop for our children who were 16 and went on to further full time education at the beginning of Sept.0

Didn't know that, is that for everyone or jus peeps on lower incomes?0

They should backdate (maximum 93 days) and it would have been quicker if you had called them (if you had been able to get through).
Did your daughter only recently decide to stay on in education? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
No I didn't read the paperwork properly. I had told the child benefit people but not the tax. Mea culpe! I just never seem to have the time to ring them up. I know I should try and make the time.:o

no backdate, eveyone on here that was in the same boat, lost a week's tc's even though we had all given them several months notice.. we are all down a week and it's being paid back £1 a week to us0 -

So what you are saying is that they DID backdate the money owed but rather than pay out in one lump sum they spread it over the rest of the tax year - same thing. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
well its only been a few weeks...
from 1st Sept this year..
Maybe i read your post wrong, the way you wrote it, it sounded like you get a lump sum back.. when all we are getting is a measly £1 a week on top of normal tc, which yes is back pay.. at a very small rate.0 -

They will pay any money owed, one way or another, from the date of the update, but they are a nightmare, timewise.
I've no been trying, since February, for the Pension Tax Credit dept., to adjust my parents claim (they are being overpaid, due to a change of circs.), and despite 6 letters, numerous phone calls, and now an MP involved, we still seem to be stuck lol:eek:
They tell me nothing will have to be repaid, because it's their fault, because they are shortstaffed, so they're honest in that way, but it still needs sorting, and it is very simple to do.
Hopefully, not all tax credit departments are this inept, though.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.
