What would you do with a large stone outbuilding?

    But you may well not need planning permission to convert this outbuilding into part of the main dwelling - yes you probably will if you are linking it to the main dwelling, but just to convert the outbuilding into additional living space - kitchen, utility area etc, then you don't need planning permission for that, provided any repairs to the building aren't so extensive they entail some rebuilding of it.

    What happens if you do the conversion first, but then subsequently decide on a covered link to the house? Would the link need permission?
    No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Yep it would - it couldn't be permitted development, as the 'enlarged part of the dwelling' to be considered would then include the converted outbuilding - and the whole enlargement (outbuilding plus link) would be too large to be permitted development.
