Got a letter today to say I was caught doing 39 mph in a 30mph zone and to fill in the forms etc, I understand it will be a £60 fine and 3 points but can anyone tell me by how much my car insurance is likely to go up??? Thanks

yeah.. most companies will accept 3 points with no additional charge. They get concerned when you get 6+. Only way you'll find out is if you ring them?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

You do need to check carefully...policies are written in different ways for different scenarios so no two insurers are likely to give the same verdict. You do have to inform your insurer of your offence and fine too (not doing so can invalidate the policy), don't assume the authorities pass the information to your insurers.
One of our guys got caught at 18 mph above the road limit (78 in a 60 zone dual c-way) and the insurance premium went up by £400 on a Saab thru 'First Alternative' (part of HBOS)...there were no other points on the drivers licence.
That hurt...and made the £60 fine look like chicken feed.“Official Company Representative

I got 3 points and a £60 fine for doing 47 in a 30 zone and it didn't effect my insurance premiums at all. I'm with churchill and to quote the guy on the phone 'Pretty much everyone has 3 points for speeding so we don't worry too much about it'Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

The 'exceeding speed limit on a public road' offence code is SP30Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

I agree with the above. Most insurers will not load the premium for 1 conviction but often they will not apply introductory discounts or be willing to negotiate a lower premium at renewal if you want to haggle with them.
It is possible to get 6 points for a speeding offence which is viewed differently by insurers I'm not sure how fast you have to be going to get this special endorsement but at 30mph+ over the limit you are looking at a ban and problems with insurance.0
