Well done for pointing this out, but I don't see the difference between this amd looking in the 'phone book?
No - or indeed the fact that PB itself says the winner is xyz from abc.

But people on here somehow, sometimes, feel that they are chatting with no-one but friends, and sometimes reveal other info about themselves, like their children's names and/or ages.

There are just a few strange minds at work out there, and one delusional reader who feels an attachment to one particular personality, or to one person's avatar/photo, or just likes the way a certain person writes, might make efforts to actually see that person in the flesh. That can turn into stalking, etc. The more detail you give, the easier it is for someone to find you. Using nothing more than ****.com, it is easy to find out where keelycat lives. It's publicly available, and no more commercial than the electoral roll, but, on the internet, no-one remembers people using such documents. There are no witnesses.

I don't want to be alarmist, and the chances of it happening are, of course, small, but you should not reveal personal info on public boards.
