Replacement meters and changing suppliers
I am currently with British Gas for both gas and electricity and on a standard tariff so was thinking of switching to a different supplier, although I hadn't actually done anything about it (apart from looking on a comparison website).
I have now had a phone call from British Gas saying that one of my meters needs replacing and they have arranged an appointment for this. They didn't mention it being a smart meter but will this be what it is? Is the replacement of meters (and the cost of doing so) the responsibility of the utility company you are with or is it actually done by the National Grid (with British Gas just contacting me about it because I happen to be their customer)? Could I have British Gas replacing a meter for me and then immediately change suppliers - or should I try to cancel the appointment?

You supplier is responsibly for changing your meter and British Gas has its own workforce that do it.
