Typical English Gift

Hi All,

For past few years I've sent gifts to Australian friends (couple with two boys). I've sent photos and souvenir type gifts (local to me) but I'm now starting to run out of ideas.

If anyone can help with suggestions of typical English things to send? Things/foods that are available here but not in Australia that they will never have tried but are well known here? Or any other suggestions welcome :D

Please remember it will need to be posted so nothing too heavy or that may breach customs.

Thanks for any ideas :j

  • Tea pot/tea/nice tea set? What about something from all four countries, a small Welsh dragon, some Scottish shortbread, English tea and something Irish?

Food wise, things like Wispas and teacakes :D

  • I usually send stuff from Harrods to friends in Australia, there are some really reasonable things on the site and it works out cheaper than posting myself.
  • Ohh I like the tea idea, thanks.
During conversations, I've mentioned eating Wispas to which I got very odd replies - it seems Wispas are not chocolate in Australia, so I'll definitely send some of those.
Ah, thanks. Hadn't thought of Harrods, I'll check out the website

I was going to suggest English chocolate. A couple of bars of Dairy Milk is always a nice treat. :) A nice fruitcake (Dundee or the like) would transport well, I'd say. Failing that, a tea cosy. :)

my uncle has just gone back home to aussie and has taken a load of cadburys chocolate, tesco value chocolate bars and turkish delight :rotfl: caramacs are also something they dont seem to have, if you want to do the 4 counties, welsh cakes are the best food from Wales (i would say Clarks Pies but i dont think they'd make it :rotfl:)

  • I'd suggest the tea theme too, how about an English Country Garden? You could send apron or cards with pretty pictures on them, perhaps even some seeds? I'm not sure if they would grow there, but love the idea of cottage garden flowers like Sweetpeas and night scented stocks growing on the other side of the world :) How about sweetpea scented toiletries?
Traditional English sweets, Union Jack sandcastle flags, Union Jack bunting. Erm that's all for now :)

You have to be a bit careful with what you send to Oz, they are very careful about what they let in: http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/mail/cant-mail

  • Thank you all for lovely ideas.
I've just done my online grocery shopping, added in some Cadburys chocs - so they can taste what I'm talking about. Also added a collection of hard boiled sweets that I remember growing up with, don't think they will have them there.
I've already got a Q magazine as they can't get it with limited cd on. Ordered a 2012 calendar of my city.
Will look for some nice tea.
Thanks for help, any extra suggestions welcome.
