How long to wait till applying?

Hi all!

I have just 'upgraded' my main Halifax bank account. I used to have a simple 'Card Cash' account which I have had since I was young, and I don't think it was doing much for me, so I have now upgraded to a Reward Current Account.

I wanted to also apply for an overdraft and credit card in order to start building up credit (I don't spend what I don't have hence never needing either before) after some recommendation. Whilst I was on the phone to Halifax, they guy said he can only upgrade my account now and I would have to wait before I could apply for the other two.

I did ask how long I would have to wait and I wasn't sure if he said 16 or 60 days, so I was just wondering if anyone could confirm how long I should wait. I'm not in a rush to apply for either, I just didn't want to apply too early and get into any trouble.

Thanks!

the reward account should come with a standard £100 overdraft.. as for the credit card, i would wait 6 month to prove you are able to run the current account without a problem.

or try capital one provided you are willing to clear the balance in full each month as the interest rate is like 40% or something mental like that
If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...

no it doesnt come with an overdraft, you have to apply for it they say 6 months for credit eg overdraft or credit card
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Thank you for your replies.

This isn't a new account, they said I can 'upgrade' the account I was using to a current account, so would it still be 6 months from when the account is upgraded?
