which tarriff while I am switching supplier?

The last day of my contract with EON was the 31st October. On that date I used energyhelpline to switch to Scottish Power. I thought that I would remain on the same tarriff with EON as I was on on 31st October until the switch took place. Instead they have told me that
" Thank you for informing us that you are considering changing Supplier.Your previous tariff ended on 31st October and you are now on our current Eon online plan which will remain until your supply leaves us. Please remember to take meter reads once you have got your switch over date from your new supplier."
This online plan is much more expensive than the plan I was on at 31st October.
Can they do this to me - or can I ask them to keep me on the tarriff at 31st October (the date I informed them of the intended switch) until the switch takes place?

That's normal. Look at the terms and conditions of the tariff you were on. Didn't E.On write to you before it ended and say that you would be put into their standard tariff unless you contacted them to go onto something else?

It is normal to be transferred to their standard tariff if your contract ends before the switch takes place.
If the company unilaterally increases prices and you object, however, you are entitled to remain on your existing tariff until the switch takes place within a "reasonable time".

Hi RADINATSTAR,
The other posters are correct.
As your tariff has actually ended you can't stay on this until you change supplier as the prices are no longer available.
So the time between your tariff ending and the change of supply date you will need to be billed on another tariff, you have been switched on to the standard EnergyOnline tariff as this doesn't have a cancellation fee.
Thanks
Helena
