Large parcel returned from overseas .. address not found

I sent a parcel to Portugal, (a large, heavy item) but the address given by the buyer was not found by the courier. It has now been returned to me. I am still not sure whether there will be a charge for the return, but in the meantime, let me assume there is no more to pay. The courier was booked through a 'third party company'.

The buyer has provided a new address, but seems unwilling to pay any extra to cover any extra postage, well delivery charge really.

Do I have to ship the item there again at my expense ?

.. and if i get stung with the return to UK cost too, is that all mine as well ?

If he decides to cancel, do I have to refund in full, or can I withhold the postage ?

What about the return postage, if I get charged for this too.

thanks

ps If the postage was just a couple of quid, there wouldn't be a problem, but sadly it wasn't

If it was an ebay sale l would check with ebay if your within your rights to refund the buyer as both parties are not willing to pay postage costs for a 2nd time. If you are a private seller l would consider NOT refunding the original postage costs. Also can you Google Street View the initial address given by the seller (l can street view family in Spain) as this may assist in confirming the buyer gave the incorrect address.

Lastly, can l ask, who was the 3rd party and courier company used, as l am impressed they got it back to you and it didn't get lost as it were.

Just to add, is the second address covered by Pay Pals seller protection.

For an Ebay or Paypal purchase the buyer will be able to force a refund for the full original payment if he were to dispute INR.

    No, unable to do so.

New address yes, but the original address not.

Isn't buyer in beach of T&Cs for providing an invalid address?
  • it's the seller's responsibility to deliver the item safely to the buyer. & it is also seller's responsibility to check whether the postal address is confirmed or not. The buyer's account could be hacked & asked sellers to send to a different address - in this case seller would loose his/her case with paypal.

Surely if the buyer provides a different address second time round they should be responsible for the extra shipping costs???
