Son just bought a canon big shot G7. He has been messing around with it and I was surprised the battery lasted only about 2 hrs, he took about 70 photos. Is this normal? He is thinking of buying a replacement battery, they are much cheaper on e-bay, can anybody recommends where he can buy one? Also interested to know what other members do, do you print the whole manual, 170 pages on it. Why do they all have to be on CD.Thanks

When I bought my first Kodak digital camera, the internal batteries lasted 10 minutes. I ended up buying a 6 volt "gel cell" alarm battery and carrying it around in a shoulder bag!
Only two hours? Luxury!0 -
It's normal if your using the flash a lot. If the pics are being taken outside make sure he's turned it off.0

I wouldnt say that it is that bad especially as the G7 has image stabilising and using the flash
According to canon themselves, if you turn off everything that you can (eg IS, continuous focusing, LCD) you should get 220 shots to a battery so knock 10% off for them being optimistic
I have bought several generic batteries off ebay and never had any problems at all. Make sure you look at the capacity of the batteries though as these can vary greatly (for my dSLR the standard battery is about 750 but the generics range from 400 to 1200)All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
