Poor service from M & S insurance

I recently received my renewal notice for my home and contents insurance from M & S insurance. On the advice of this website I did a moneysupermarket price comparison before renewing.
This still came up with M & S, but with a quote almost £100 cheaper than that quoted on my renewal notice. When I rang M & S money to query this they admitted that new customers were being offered better rates than existing ones, and pointed out that their renewal notice was about 80 pence cheaper than I paid last year - big deal!
I normally expect good customer service from M & S - this is real exploitation of existing customers. And they know it's happening, and seem to think it's OK.

This is common practice across all insurers - write business at a loss in year 1 and then try to recover the losses in later years.
If memory serves correct M&S insurance is "really" Norwich Union anyway and whilst a brand will try to find like minded partners for things like insurance offerings I always think it is a mistake to think that if you buy from shop X that X Insurance which is really Insurer Y will give the same service as it is Y's staff you are dealing withAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
