Nearly all suppliers will change it free, Some may insist you have to have had it for a certain period of time first, or may run a credit check. Also you can change suppliers with a prepayment meter, it's just uSwitch doesn't support it.0

I was under the impression that it was only possible to change supplier with certain types of prepayment meter, not all types.
It would be best anyway to ask the supplier if they can change it, as prepayment tariffs are normally more expensive, and you can't get direct debit discounts etc.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
There is no type of prepayment meter that I'm aware of that you can't change supplier with0

I stand corrected. Sorry tripled !
You have to not be in arrears with the prepayment meter though. And if you can't use a switching website, would you have to go the supplier directly to switch?Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
I have prepayment meters for gas & electric & have recently changed suppliers. Most suppliers do charge a higher tarrif for using prepayment, however, I changed to EDF as they don't. I prefer the prepayment method as you don't dread that bill coming in. I did query a few years ago about having them taken out but was told I would be charged for it, so never bothered.0

I think some switching websites support them, although most don't. It would be a case of finding one that supports switching, or go to the supplier directly, maybe through quidco.0

Do let us know how you got on. I too want to have a normal meter. I moved in a few months ago and it came with prepayment. I changed to ebico prepay as they dont charge any standing charge. But then realised its a bitmore complicated as the meter HAS to charge the standing charge and ebico will refund the money quarterly as well as any refund on the tariff as the meter can only charge a few standard rates.
Its too much for me to work out how much im spending etc and dont want to chase over refunds etc.
Apparently ebico will charge about £50 for a normal meters to be put in (maybe more depending onthe work required).
So im looking for a supplier who will swop me to a normal meter. Ive excellent credit rating etc so no probs paying bills on time.0 -
the devils incarnate (British Gas) will do it for free:beer:0

Not quite, even looking at the EDF website you can see if you pay by Direct Debit you will get cheaper rates than those on pre-payment, also pre-payment has a daily-rate whereas other methods have no standing charge, so during the warmer and lighter months where you use little on no energy there could be quite some difference. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
