Meepster - all true till you see the orange peel on wraps. Even the better wraps still show peel.
I have found only Acrylics and built up lacquered doors have real depth and quality of colour, particularly dark colours. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

True - but to be honest, "orange peel" wouldn't put me off (especially on a decent quality wrapped door) and the cost difference really has to be taken into account too...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Yes lacquered doors will cost more but more scratch resistant, wont delaminate and look great.
If cost is an issue (very often is), acrylic is really a very good alternative. Looks great, wont delaminate, about the same money as a better wrap.
I find it remarkable that polished glossy laminates are hugely overlooked. Its got a lot going for it.We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

For cabinet quality would choose Magnet, Wren, or Benchmarx over Howdens.
Howdens wall cabinets are less deep than the others too....
They will be the cheapest of the bunch, but for a reason....
Howdens cabinets are rigid glued and dowelled and factory or branch assembled (no cams).
Base units have 8mm MDF back panels, wall units 3mm back panels.
Overall a lower spec than the others mentioned in this thread.
Not to say they are a poor quality kitchen, just not quite as good as the others that have been mentioned here.0 -

Do you have to be a trader to have a trade account? Might be a stupid question but sombody told me you didn't??
I'm not a trader I am employed by a company, would I be able to benefit from trade prices?
Thanks all0 -
Hi 1888, Where abouts are you based ?
Cheers

I've asked the manager at my local Magnet Trade why the company has 2 arms selling essentially the same product and he can't answer the question!!
Most doors are available at both Trade and Retail arms. There are supposed to be some doors that are exclusively Retail only, but back in the summer we installed an 'exclusively only' retail kitchen but sourced it through the local trade arm. I think in reaility, Magnet won't pass ip a sale!
the only real difference is the costings. The retail arm occupy expensive premises and have large showrooms and sell at an inflated price with inflated fitting costs, whereas the Trade arm occupy lower cost premises (normally on industrial estates) don't have big showrooms and sell on a high volume low margin approach.
I can't see how the business model can work!!
But the Highams park Magnet retail and Magnet Trade are on the same site, in the same building with a through door! Very useful for viewing and comparing.0
