Bored and fed up at work

I will try and keep this as short as possible.
I have been working for a small company since 2005, generally I enjoy it, but am getting to the stage where I don't feel valued and am just bored. The MD is getting on in years, his son works for the company.
Basically 2 full time staff were made redundant in 2009, I had to reapply for my job and had my days changed from 3 part-days to 2 full days (which is ok I'm happy with 2 days).
So there's me working 2 days, another lady working 2 days (different days to me) and a full timer who works in the warehouse as well as the office. Full timer goes on holiday, so I do extra days and other p/t lady agrees to do extra days to help so there's 2 of us in the office. Next thing that happens is this lady goes off sick so I'm left on my own for a couple of days, which fine I can cope with it. Lady off sick for a quite a while, so bosses girlfriend comes in to help out, she has just left her job etc.
Now she's a permanent member of staff and has pretty much taken over everything. When the other member of staff was made redundant, I was going to learn this that and the other, I did learn some of it, but know she's learnt it and is keeping it all for herself.
Should I just let her get on with it? I am also fed up with the special privileges she seems to get and she's also been left in charge of our contracts when she has no experience of this sort of thing, we should have had them long ago, they've been typed up, but not been given out after more than 2 years. We have a new accountant and something came up in a conversation with him and he said it would be in my contract, he looked shocked when I told him I hadn't had it yet.
Oh says it's not worth saying anything to the MD, as she's his son's girlfriend and can probably do no wrong.
What do you all think?

Only a fool would employ his son's girlfriend and give her even the appearance of any clout over the other employees. It sets so much wrong in the ambience of the workplace.Abbafan1972 wrote: »... What do you all think?
But if the boss wants to do that, it is hard to argue against it. He will probably find that his better employees move on.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I think that if you've been working for this company for 6 years, not getting the training planned, and is generally a !!!! poor employer (re: contracts, handling of staff and the girlfriend) it's way past the time you should consider looking for a new job. You said yourself that the aspects you're not enjoying cannot be fixed - he's not going to deal with his girlfriend as impartially as a boss should.
You're in a very good situation to start putting feelers out for your next challenge - you have what appears to be secure employment that you aren't totally hating. Use this advantage to YOUR advantage. But think about the long term and don't just sit on your laurels about your job, IMHO.0 -
I think it was the son that wanted her there. He is the manager and doesn't know how to manage at all! I think his dad just lets him get on with it. He's such a spoilt little brat!
At the point when she was helping out, she did say to me that she "didn't want to work here", but she's just kind of got her feet under the table, started off doing 2 days, then 3, then 4, (and she swaps these round to suit herself) because "there's so much work" apparently, but it's only her own doing and it seems that she's "created" a job for herself.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £10,153.440 -
You have a choice.. either find another job or get into the frame of mind that work is there to pay for your real life outside work and make sure you've got plenty of good things to look forward to.0

Lol! This is the strange bit. They live together, but it's the father and son that have bought the house, I doubt if her name is on the deeds. So if they were to split, she wouldn't have a house or job.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £10,153.440 -

Indeed, she has created a little empire of her own, right under your nose . You should have tried to nip her in the bud early doors, it may now be too late to pull things back.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

Nip her in the bud how?Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £10,153.440 -
Inform her from the moment she started empire building you would not stand by and let her undermine you. Don't divulge all your operational knowledge and experience (hold things back which may be significant). Learn to play the workplace politics game and ensure you don't leave yourself open in future.
Don't permit her to impose her personality over you to your detriment.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Shes banging the boss...
She'll always get special treatment.
Not fair on you and there wont be a lot you can do about it!
Hope it all works out.0
