Ignoring all the incorrect advice on here....
OP, compose an email telling them to return for a full refund, but add in there something about 'refund will be issued on confirmation of serial number and identifying UV mark'.
Stops the bait and switch brigade hopefully.0 -

The BUYER says there is something wrong with it. Until the seller has it back there is no point in argument. However, once returned, Ebay and Paypal will ensure the buyer is refunded, regardless.0 -
OP will have to refund the buyer in any way. Yes, if it turns out the item is still working, who's gonna believe the seller or the buyer?
I think it's practical to refund the buyer if you don't want to ruin your feedback, OP.0
