Cancelling Car Insurance

Hi,
I am currently looking for a new insurance provider mid way through my insurance policy. This is because I would like to add my wife to my insurance. They have quoted us in the region of £3000 for the remainder of the policy to insure her as well. (I am 25 and my wife is 23)
They have also told me that I would have to pay around £100 to cancel my current policy (more or less depending on time of the month).

If I do go ahead and cancel, will it affect any subsequent policies I take out, by way of them knowing I have been canceling policies? And/or would I have to tick the box saying 'Had a policy canceled in the last 5 years' ?

Also, it may be an all too common question lately, but has car insurance gone up a lot in the last year or so? I was paying in the region of £400 last year and this year I was quoted more like £700, even after turning 25!

Would insurance companies store my buying/canceling history and put my prices up?

Cancelling your policy will have no effect on any future policies you take out. You don't tick the box (because you haven't had a policy cancelled - you are going to do the cancelling!)

Read up on insurance going up here and across the net!

You need not worry about being penalised in future!

Do you have any no claims you need to use? If you do then you dont have much choice really.

    Paying installments?

As above you have not had a policy cancelled you are cancelling it to move to another company.

Had a similar issue many years ago when i swapped my 1300cc car for a 3500cc V8. Being in my early 20's
the current insurer laughed and said not a chance.

No choice but to cancel and take a policy with another company.

If you need to use the no claims for another policy then you dont have a choice but to pay up. They may not release it
    otherwise.

Unless you can find another company who are cheaper without using the no claims of course.
