I need to calculate (11.976*104)/(42.98*106)
(where the red numbers are powers, so 10 to the power of 4, and 10 to the power of 6)
How can I use excel to find the answer?

The convention in Excel - and pretty much every other spreadsheet - is for the ^ symbol to represent powers, so
(11.976*(10^4))/(42.98*(10^6))
The extra brackets are there to ensure that you know which parts of the formula are going to be calculated first, if you are unsure what precedence rules Excel is going to apply (e.g. is it going to multiply 11.976 by 10 first and then raise it to the power of 4?).0 -
Thanks fwor, do I just type it into one cell as you've written it? Or do I need a function? My knowledge of excel doesn't go much past =sum

No - just the formula with (IIRC, haven't used Excel for 5 years now) an = sign in front.0
