E readers and my local library

Hi there,
sorry if this has been asked before..
I'm looking to buy an e reader - be it a Kindle or Kobo etc and would like to use it for e books from my library.
My library doesn't offer Kindle support...can I still download to my pc and convert to Kindle friendly formats somehow...or am I best going for Kobo which the library is compatible with?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Andi

You cannot "convert" library books to kindle format legally.
I do not have much experience of other readers (i have a kindle). The sony readers get consistently good reviews but there are a lot of smaller companies bringing them out too.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

  • I have a Sony PRS-505 which my library supports (ie ePub/Adobe Editions) but some books are Mobi(grrrr) , it is superb but Sony have newer versions out now. My big annoyance about eBooks is the various formats which are about, it is like going to your local bookstore and them saying "yes you can buy this book, but you must read it with spectacles from Specsavers/Vision Express"

Essex uses digital editions for epubs (they are drm'd to expire 7/14/21 days or return using DigEd to "return" ie send a message sayng it's gone) Mobireader is similar but it won't work on my PC so I can't say for sure

Thanks folks...that's pretty much what I thought - if I want to use ebooks from my library I don't get a Kindle.
I'll have a look at the sony readers and the Kobo then...oh and see what titles my library offers.
