Nationwide Platinum CC

Hi All,

Newbie here!
I was 'upgraded' (their words, not mine) from a NW Gold CC to a NW Platinum CC last month without them asking me, I may add.

Anyway, it turns out that the minimum monthly payment [for all customers] that can be made has changed from 3% or £5 (whichever is the greater) to a whopping 1% or £25, whichever is the greater.

What a rip-off!...so much for being 'on my side', as their TV commercial states.

I've made a formal complaint to NW about the way they are conducting themselves lately. This once 'great' building society is slowly going down the pan.
Anyone else unhappy?

  • Yes. Unhappy with your rant! Are you seriously saying that NW's attempt to potentially reduce the interest charges on unpaid CC debt by increasing the minimum payment from £5 to (an extortionate!) £25 is a bad thing?

What, you would rather only pay £5 and take forever to repay? Or are you just yanking chains here?
  • Yanking chains i think...
  • The previous 2 posters misunderstand your post. Yes, NW would like to increase the time you take to pay off your balance if you pay the min amount each month. Also the interest rates on the so called "select" platinum card are higher than the gold card!! Some upgrade!

I've also received a letter to tell me I've been "upgraded" - to a card (which, surprise surprise, is detailed on on page 2 of the letter) no longer offers a free extended warranty or purchase protection.

I liked the extended free warranty that was provided by Nationwide. No hard sell either when phoning to register products. With regard to payments I use my credit card to suit me and the free warranty was probably the main reason I kept it. May have to look and see if anything better out there.

How long do you need to have the card before you're upgraded? Got the std card in August and made my 11 year old flexaccount my main account 6 weeks ago...
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
