Hey guys
I have just had a letter from Corgi homecare offering cheap boiler maintenance. I currently use British Gas who are significantly dearer, I rang British Gas, who explained that the T & C's of Corgi were far more restrictive (OK I agree as I checked online whilst talking tothe advisor). but BG gave 10% discount justt for having the cheek to ring them and tell them that I had a letter from Corgi. that means this year is now less than last year:j

I;ve always been happy with BG response to callouts. I downgraded it a couple of years ago to the fleix package (£50 excess per repair).
Just received a renewal which is £2 more than quote for new customer:( I don't hold out a lot of hope getting this reduced with a phone call.
If I knew a local reliable plumber I'd probably just have annual serice from them, especially as these plans now include so many exclusion clauses.0 -
I'm curious, what is the point of boiler maintenance?
I've never had my boiler serviced afaik (previous owners possibly 7 years ago) but it could be 14 years old now without a service.
Considering the size of the house our gas bills are cheap, and we have the CH on 24/7 so it's constantly clicking on and off.0 -
you should read the thread on Corgi.... interesting.... seems they had a court battle with BGas and lost.
Their plan used to be called Corgi Homecare, now its called Corgi Homeplan.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
Two things that get mixed up by the vast majority of people.
1. Breakdown cover
2. Boiler maintenance.
It is probably fair to say that 9 out of 10 people that think they have a service contract, in fact only have breakdown cover. That means that NO maintenance is done, and the boiler does NOT get serviced. What they get is an annual SAFETY CHECK which does little more than verifying that there is no gas leak and no fumes enter the property.
As a result, life expectancy of a boiler is strongly reduced. When the boiler gives up prematurely, the owner is often told that the boiler is beyond economic repair and needs replacing.
In thousands upon thousands of cases, real maintenance could have prevented that from happening until (many) years later. These tactics safe money for the Big Gascompany because they have to spend fewer manhours on the customer, and gives them a foot in the door for giving the first quote when the boiler is (unnecessarily) condemned to the scrapheap.0
