I have NEVER seen a patio door fitted with the sliding panel innermost.

You had better come and look at mine then, I have had two patio doors fitted in the last two years (different makers) and they both have the sliding door on the inside.

WHS and Patiomaster track on outside, ADvance 70 and a few others have it on the inside. If it doesn't leak it's been fitted correctly.

Oh and if there is a fire just run at the glass as hard as you can, it will break ;)
  • It didn't occur to me they were on "back to front" until a joiner doing work in the house mentioned it to me, freaked me out when he demonstrated the burglar example then the escape from a fire example. Great joiner altho in hindsight a drama queen. :)

They are similar to tilt and turn windows except that they are tilt and slide. We thought that they were a good idea at the time, but our experience is that they are a nuisance, because you have to have the vertical blinds pulled back out of the way if the window is open. or even if the window is closed and just tilted open at the top. Then the sun fades the carpet.

turn and tilt doors really have to tilt inwards otherwise, if it rained the water would be funnelled into the house
  • Our old patio doors opened on the outside, but when we were in Canada one of the places we stayed at had it opening on the inside, and part of the locking mechanism was a pole that went across the part of the window it opened onto and physically stopped it opening.

We changed our patio doors to French windows, mainly so we could have a small window open in the winter without the risk of one of the neighbours' cats sneaking in!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
