'Energy ratings' can be confusing, and misleading.
They are useful only when comparing like with like.
Exactly similar fridges, both non-self-defrost, and the same size, say.
If you're for example considering replacing a 'B' rated fridge-freezer with 'A' rated fridge and freezer separate, you may not save anything, or it may cost you more.
Look at the kWh/year labels, and work out what size you actually need.
Also - consider other things.
Yes, you may save 10 quid a year by dropping the size of the freezer 50%.
But, the value of stuff in a typical freezer is well over 10 quid, and if you fill it with stuff you get reduced, that 10 quid of extra electricity per year you spend may be very well repaid!
http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/cat/2620/freezers.html for example is useful.
Oddly this seems to have hit the 'bad words' filter - https://www.idealo.co. uk is the missing bit.
Select "A++" energy rating.
The first three freezers use 150kWh/year, the next double that!
It is twice as large, but naively, you might expect it to use the same amount of power.
Select 'annual energy consumption' under 200kWh/year - and the result looks a bit different.0 -
I've worked out the my electricity useage is approx 5kw per day...despite my being obsessive about turning things off and using energy saving bulbs.
I do use my remoska daily and am wondering this is the main guzzler??
Does anyone know??
Have not had to use 'big' oven since I've been 'remoska-ed', but I'm now wondering just how much economy is it really saving me. I have heard comments that remoskas are cheap to run, but it this just clever sales technique??
My other query is:
does leaving the Flat screen TV on standby, consume lots of power..would I be def better off to take the plug out??
THANKS ALL!0 -

I Luuuuuurvvve my moska. I don't know the figures but I DO know that I hardly every use the main oven (only for the Sunday roast and Christmas dinner). I have turned off the main range oven at the mains because I can't see the point in having it turned on all the time just to see the clock:rotfl:
Moska cooking has to be the greatest saving ever.:T
My household is made up of me, my teenage daughter, 3 dogs and two cats. Our daily consumption averages out at about 5kw per day and try as I might, I cannot get it any lower - hence my original question about turning off the fridge during the day.
However, I now feel that I am at a consumption level that suits my family.
Re the tv - don't have one, so can't comment:D

our electricity runs at approx 33kwh per day. We've given up getting it any lower. 3 adults, sometimes 5 if partners stay over, electric shower that is used about 1 hour per day (yes, an hour) and tumble dryer used about 6 times a week, a PC is on 24/7, as is 2 freezers, 2 fridges and a beer fridge, plus the usual phone chargers etc and a housemate who is ALWAYS cold and insists on using a 2kw fan heater in her room! Its just the way our house runs and between 3 of us £90 a month DD isn't so bad really. DD for gas has gone from £90 as well to £30 thanks to a new 90% efficient boiler so thats better!
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0
