barclaycard application referred - shall I call?

Hi,

last weekend I applied for a Barclaycard Platinum. Though I've been only for 1 year in the UK, I've got a good credit report (3 credit lines: overdraft with my bank - barclays, vodafone contract and capital one basic credit card - everything paid on time ever). I got declined once in the past, this time my application has been referred. I think they use Equifax but I can't control that credit report as my address history is too short (keep asking me for previous addresses).

Is there a number I can call to check my application status? Haven't heard from them for a week.

Thanks!

Were you declined by Barclay’s credit card previously? They will let you know in writing - based on what you state it will be an almost certain decline. The Barclaycard initial would have been more appropriate. You should have also used the Barclaycard pre application indicator as this would have told you the likelihood of being accepted before having a 'hard' credit search.
Don't thank me, thank my post :T

    I couldn't find anymore the pre-application check.

When I was declined, I was declined immediately by the system, this time I got referred (and in the meanwhile I got a new credit card from Capital One which I pay with direct debit for the whole sum every month). I was wondering if they will give me more information if I call them at the phone. Anyway, on my Experian credit report I can't find any searches for Barclaycard. Is this normal?

I was not going to apply to an Initial as I've got already a Capital One credit card.

In order to get a Barclaycard Platinum credit card you should "have a history of managing credit commitments well i.e. have existing credit and at least 4 years of experience managing credit cards, loans, overdraft or mortgage", "Have a regular income of more than £20,000 pa", "Excluding a mortgage, your debt on credit cards or store cards is less than 10% of your income" and "Have a excellent credit rating". Based on what you state you do not meet that criteria therefore are almost certain to be declined. The initial card is more suitable for you. The Pre-Application check is working fine.

not sure how well the pre-app check is. my wife got a 80-90% chance of approval using the pre app and got declined. Think one need to apply to those that says 90+% approval chance to get them.

I've got more than 1 people that have not been in the country for 4 years (1 year and something), and they've got the Platinum card. My salary is way more than 20k, with a full-time permanent job. I don't know what "excellent credit rating" means, but I've paid always everything on time both to my phone contract and to my credit card. Got overdraft on my account (£260) but never used.

I couldn't find online the thing about 4 years. Could you provide a link?

Oh, anyway no one answered the original question (if they've got a number I can contact).

  • You haven't got a good enough credit history. You've only been here 1 year.

Yeah, called and got rejected. Well, I would do without it. I still wonder why my friends got it as they're here for 2 years...

Everyone is different. There are so many factors which affect peoples credit applications.
