Changed my Ram, now the screen won't work!

I was kindly given an old Sony Vaio laptop, worked OK but was quite slow, so decided to upgrade the RAM from the standard 512MB to 2x1GB, a few sites said this would work as did Crucial too.

Put the RAM in with no issues, however now the laptop does power up but screen is black. I tried putting the old RAM in but that made no difference.

Help! It's a Sony Vaio S5M if that helps

Just a guess, but is the RAM seated correctly? You really need to push those RAM chips into place quite firmly!
  • Yes, it seems to go in as far as they can and they've clicked in

You were right! Turns out I was trying to be too delicate with it and a good ol push and clicked worked and did the trick!
