Cheque Payee

Have sent a cheque for my purchase in the name of the Ebay account holder.
Now I have received an Email from seller telling me that it will be returned as he wants it to be made payable to someone else.
I would have preferred to have paid via Paypal, but it was not an option.
Having only completed a handful of transactions through Ebay, I am hoping that some of you seasoned Ebayers could advise me as I feel a little uncomfortable with this request.
Thanks

Tell the seller to forget it, pay the person who the account belongs to and no one else.

This sounds very fishy. The person named on the cheque (which you sent) could easily bank it and in turn pay the other person they want you to make the new cheque out to... unless they are not that person. I would ask the seller for their bank details and do a bank transfer into their UK bank account - much easier for the Police to trace if they don't supply the goods. Their bank details should match the seller's details too - if not, then it may be a hijacked eBay account.
How much is the item worth and what kind of item is it? If it's £5 for a CD I wouldn't worry too much. However if it's £350 for a PSP3 or Xbox360 then I would ask to cancel the transaction."Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0
