a tale of an overgrown hedge

about 8/9 months ago (maybe a bit more) i complained to the council about an overgrown hedge outside a neighbouring property because if i wanted to walk past i have to wheel the pram into the road as it was so overgrown.

someone sent a letter, i presume, and the hedge got cut but nt to standarsd that i have recently found out the council expects.....

this hedge has not been touched since and again for a while now we have had to walk into the road to get past. there is also a blind man who lives round here who i imagine this hedge can be a nightmare for. so i have called and complained to the relevant department.

then a couple of months before crimbo a friend borrowed our hedge trimmer and broke it. so mum brought mr mob one for crimbo and just before crimbo we get a letter from the council informing us under some part of the highways act that our hedge was overgrown. i called and spoke to the sender of the letter and informed that it would be cut straight after crimbo day when mr mob had opened his present. we had until the 4th jan and mr mob cut it on the 2nd.

when i spoke to this bloke i asked if he had also written (considering he stated he had actually witnessed the overgrown hedge on a patrol) to the offending article 2 doors down towhich he said he had.

now we were threatened in our letter that if we didnt cut ours by the 4t jan the council would then come and do it and charge us. we complied as any good citizen would but she (2 doors down) hasnt and to this day it is still so overgrown i have to risk wheeling the buggy in the road to walk past.

so far i have spoken to the letter sender, the street management team and my housing officer and still nothing has been done about this attrocious hedge.

so i sent an email to the complaints department (maybe they havent responded as ive made so many complaints in the past year to get the prmosed work of re-doing my pointing outside which was only carried out yesterday after a YEAR.

the complaints department have not responded to my email.

what d i do next?

how dare the woman who lives in the house with the overgrown hedge be allowed to ignore officla warnings and get away with it. it is a danger not only to me but other members of the public?

any ideas other than me pouring petrol on the sodding thing and setting light to it?

FTR she is a council tenant also. (and a bad driver as shes backed into ours twice when weve been sat in it lol)

To be honest, by now I'd go and cut it myself and throw the bits into her garden!

Now I'm sure it was the first thing you did, but since you didn't mention it in your post I have to ask: have you talked to the neighbour who owns the hedge and explained the situation? What was their attitude? If they have been discourteous or rude in their response to you, be sure to mention that to the council.

Write a letter to the chief executive of the Council enclosing all your other letters. He will in turn write a nice letter back to you telling you that he will look into it. Meanwhile he will tell the other depts to get their act together and because they have been told by the chief to do something..they will.

keep me posted on how it goes.
  • contact you councillor get him to come and see it and he/she will /should sort it for you.

i wouldnt talk to her on account of her being extremely rude. plus she is hardly ever there. last time i saw her she had just backed into my car, shrugged at me and sped off. no damage done but still.
