any advice appreciated- iphone sent to apple for repair and returned in worse cond

have cpoied from another website i use as i am getting desperate.

basically sent my iphone for repair last week, the home button had stopped working so even though i could still use the touch screen i could not come out of phone book/messages etc without having to turn the phone off then back on again!

By the time i had tried all the trouble shooting methods apple suggested the phone had totally packed in, it would not turn on and nothing happened when i tried to charge or connect it to the comp.

Apple sent me a box to return the phone in which i did, it arrived back today and i was well impressed with how quick it had been returned until i seen the state of the phone.

the screen is all smashed in and there is a note inside the pakage saying that due to the damamge to the phone i is not covered under warrenty and wont be repaired.

The phone was not in this state whn i sent t away and i dont know what to do, i am only 6 months into a 2 year contract and cant afford to replace the phone.

Tried calling apple tonight but they are saying the phone arrived in this state so basically not there problem. i have someone looking into it but he said my chances are pretty much zero of them repairing it.

does anyone have any advice? i could kick myself now for sending it away without taking a picture of what condition it was in, seems so convenient that they can refuse to reapair it after the screen has mysteriously been smashed.

to make it even worse dh is overseas with the army at the moment and i keep on missing all his calls. i could honestly cry!

so you are saying they have sent back your phone (your wallpaper, photos etc) and its all smashed up? did you use the packaging they sent you?
  • yes, phone was returned for repair in the box apple provided me with (cushioned box with space for the iphone cut out in the centre) the screen had minor scratches when i sent it in but nothing major, the problem was with the screen freezing and the home button not working.

i sent it on the fri and it was returned on tues, when i opened the packet expecting it to be my fixed phone but the screen was totally smashed and there was a letter enclosed saying that due to the damage to the phone the phone was no longer covered under warrenty for repair.

when i phoned they say the phone arrived to them in this condition and there was no damage to the box but the phone was def not like that when i posted it.
  • I would personally tell apply that you expect your phone fully repaired and that they should claim off their courier as you didn't do the damage so it clearly happened in transit.

If they insist on proof, I would bite back and insist they prove it arrived broken and a random member of staff didn't drop it first thing when he got it out the box.

You cannot prove it wasn't broken (your word) against them not being able to prove it arrived broken (staff members word). Catch 22 me thinks.
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!
