car paint repair - any recommendations?

  • hi, thanks for advice - even tho it sounds daunting!! Have found someone who is going to help so should turn out ok, it's just the bonnet which is the most important really. I don't expect it to end up like new, life is too short to worry about such things and I guess it will be better than falling apart due to rust!
    Thanks all :-)

I was wondering that, but there are several areas on the car which need looking at. I think the mobile repairers do a great job if there is just one repair, but this vehicle could end up looking like a patchwork quilt.
i aired in the side of caution to recommend a mobile repairer, sounds to me were dealing with a VW of old skool like a mk2 golf or mk3 golf. if it were my car, i'd go for getting it in the bay, going vigouroulsy over every panel with the MOP polisher, getting it in the sun and looking for the bad spots marking them out if every panel needs some sort of work, prep it up paint the whole car. not everyone has the luxary of mate in the trade and a good respray can set someone back £800-1200 to have a pro do it.

my recomendation would be to leave it alone. unless you intend on spending the cash.

please please please dont spray can the bonnet, i can asure you it wuill turn out worse than it is now, the bonnet needs evenly spread coats, something a spraycan cannot deliver due to not having the correct airflow speed, the paint will be thin and youll have orange peel and fade within a few weeks with marks and whiting streeks.

I would take photographs and just email them to get some quotes.
