I agree that if you're buying a very high end and expensive item it might be worth having a warranty as long as the small print doesn't make too may hoops to jump through on claim.
i.e. I had BG servicecare for my boiler etc for many years, claimed on it twice and more than got my money back, more importantly it covered the repairs when finding the full costs may well have beaten me at that time.
However I do think that more and more places now push a warranty that is fairly useless on cheaper items, all the seem to be are policies that imply the company will argue the toss if you haven't got their extended warranty.
The facts are most goods are now covered fairly well by 'reasonable lifetime' so the first year there's usually no trouble getting a repair/ replacement and then depending on how much the item costs and what could be argued is the reasonable lifetime if it's more than that.
Extended warranties seem an expensive way (for the most part) in making claims easier.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
