'Morning all......lots of [ground, can't stand instant] coffee, bowl of porridge, to start me off.

Taking a sickie ...somehow woke up and really couldn't be bothered! The Country will have to get along as best it can without me today!

Early doors, having browsed [I've ceased lurking, more into browsing these days]...............I read a post about applying for a Vanquis card.....perhaps something I should have done a while ago?

Anyway, stomped into their website, filled out the form, got a phone call before 8.30...a few impertinent questions, and I've been 'approved!!!'

I note they are very much geared towards 'our' end of the economy, [at least, their blurb is]...perhaps following on in the Co-op's footsteps?

Cannot for the life of me understand how I've managed to tick so many of their boxes first time out?

After all, it's not as if I'm making any sort of conscious effort to conform to Society's idea of the ideal citizen!

[If my thoughts were magically turned into actions , the Gunpowder plot would NOT have failed.....many times.]

Have just acquired a 'new'[ [to me] car, one of Dagenham's finest...even though it was built in the last century!

This occurred courtesy of a little old lady [what am I talking about? She was probably younger than me! Perceptions play tricks as life progresses]......who managed to drive full tilt into the back a my Czech pride 'n joy whilst it was parked.

Whilst she definitely found her crumple zone, my car was....to all intents and purposes. undamaged!

Certainly drove no differently to what it did before....so I continued to use it....however, decided to inform my insurer....a courtesy I presumed, no more.

The poor thing was examined by their engineer-person...who declared it 'uneconomical to repair'.....[repair what, I thought?]......well, it did have a slightly lacy wheelarch, but what car doesn't when they're 15 years old?

Since it was a no-fault 'claim'....no loss of excess, no loss of NCD.....my insurer came up with their offer..[quite reasonable, considering]...however, they wanted to 'take' my old car there-and-then!

So, says I, just how do I get to work, and run around doing family things then? Especially as I live rural?

What am I supposed to do? Take a fortnite off work? Then how am I supposed to get around to look for a replacement vehicle?

I know that, within 30 minutes of me phoning my insurer, their contractor rang to offer me a hire car, but....mine was quite usable, thank you...and any settlement would have been in the hundreds rather than the thousands...and everyone's premiums are high enough as it is, without my two pennor'th!

I was honestly led to believe that a 'cash-in-lieu' settlement would have done the trick [putting a Cat C write-off back on the road involves actually around £160-plus of admin charges, before any metal is mended.]..but, my insurer's engineer wouldn't play ball at all! [Not that it would have cost them anything anyway!]

So...I was left really with no choice but to accept their kind offer, but....they pay after the old car is removed, not before!

Which meant, I had to scrat around my finances to scrape together enough to purchase a replacement.

Which seems a bit off-it really, as the collision wasn't my fault in any way, shape or form!

So, now I await the payment to hit my account!

They'd better not screw-up, as I have bills to pay!

And..hence new car sitting outside! Not my first choice, but needs must...it's a horrible thing, not a patch on my old Czech buddy...even if it does have toys like aircon and power steering! And 16 valves....I don't need or do toys....I need to be cool, I open a window....my arms aren't yet so feeble I cannot turn a steering wheel....and the car 'goes' no better than the similar-sized one it replaced.

Once the dust of birthdays has settled, it'll be replaced with something like the old one.....

Isn't it amazing how one becomes 'attached' to inanimate mechanical objects?

I was really sad when the old car was removed......and pleased the wee man couldn't just drive it onto the transporter...seeing as the battery had suddenly [and strangely] become flat!

Still, I hope it's parts continue to keep other like-minded owner's cars going into the distant future?

Or.......maybe, just maybe......it'll be re-incarnated as your next new washing machine?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Hi Alastair  Your posts do make me chuckle. I'm sorry to hear about the car though, what a palaver.... especially as none of it was your fault :( I hope the insurance company cough up on time..

btw - I'm with you on the gunpowder plot.....

    Afternoon everyone

My tum is telling me it's lunchtime..... caesar salad today I think:D
