Audio driver needed

Hi, we have upgraded from XP to 7 and everything works fine except for the sound - I have done several checks and diagnostics and I have no device driver installed, I have tried all kinds of searches and using miccrosoft support but have had no luck, the machine is an Elonex and although we've only bought it 18 months new, apparently it is an old model that is not supported! I have been into device manager and I get this info under audio controller details: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27DE&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_01 but I don't know how and where to download safe drivers. I would be most grateful for any help. Thanks

You may get more useful information by downloading and running CPUID's PC Wizard, as that often tells you maker and chipset identity. You can then do more searches on that info to see if you can find a driver.
Unfortunately, if the chipset maker hasn't bothered to write Win7 drivers for its old chips, you may never get it to work - though ~sometimes~ older drivers can work. If you can find a Vista driver it shouldn't harm to try that.
If that fails, it may be easier simply to buy a separate soundcard that works with Win7. You can buy USB soundcards cheaply these days, so you won't even need to open the case.0 -
Thanks for that, how do I find a Vista driver? can you recommend any safe sites, I looked at some but they had lots of dubious advertising and I don't want to download any viruses etc. Also I have an all-in-one with built in speakers -I assume the usb sound card wouldn't work with them? Any help really would be appreciated, I'm going a bit potty trying to sort this out
And yes it is a Realtec sound chip - at least that's what it says when I Google PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27DE&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_01

more than likely Realtek sound chips, so there will be drivers. Use something like driverMax to identify the hardware and give you a list of driver downloads. It's slightly cumbersome to use, but I've found allsorts of odd drivers with it.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Have you tried a few generic windows drivers from the dropdown boxes, often they workHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

if it's a Realtek chip, go to their site and download direct from them...don't be put off that their download locations are in the far east (taiwan if I remember correctly), they are the genuine articles......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

if windows update doesn't find anything, try searching for realtek alc on intel.com and looking for your motherboard
eg
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3251&DwnldID=20415&keyword=realtek&lang=eng
if you get it working, you could do a windows7 disk image backup and rescue disc to restore it as a working system in future!!
