Help with TROJAN.PEACOMM

Hi, I've just logged on to my PC and Norton has alerted me to a rapidly growing threat and directs me to live update but when I go to run the update it keeps coming up failed.
Any ideas guys

To check if you may have the infection do a search for "wincom32.sys" & "peers.ini "and "game*.exe". If you find these files - follow the above removal instruction (don't pay anything ) But you must restart your pc in safe mode (press F8) and do the scans ... not while on the internet.

I had this 2 days ago..did everything like run live update, clicked on the protect button , I think thats what it was...did that a couple of times, then did a scan. Still got the alert, but the next day it was okay...I checked the anti-virus and it was protected. It drove me mad! Just as well because I'd given up!
