Flying with Virgin - can you take Camera and Camcorders on the flight?

Anyone know whether we can take cameras and camcorders on board Virgin Atlantic as hand luggage. It says in my booklet that you can take hand luggage but not non-essential items.

They will both be in a camera bag that hubby will take on with him as his hand luggage allowance as we are a bit reluctant to stick 1k worth of cameras in the suitcases for them to chuck about as they do in the hold.

Anyone recently travelled with them as hand luggage and can advise further as to whether we would get turned away with them??

Thanks

Thanks, was not sure if they would let us as it was non-essential. Just didn't want it being damaged. I did also read that if you took film through that you had to take it out of the plastic containers and everyting so it could be examined. I think it's going to be a long time getting through customs the other end!!

Carrying camera on Virgin flight is not a problem. Airports have put restrictions on any conatiners with liquid in them. Xray recommendation (especially in US) is that you present unexposed to airport staff to check and they will advise if the machines will cause problem.

Security checking in at US (orlando anyway) involves also removing footwear for xray.

We travel VA to orlando at christmas and noticed no noticable increase in security checks there. Biggest delays for check were at Manchester going out and at Manchester "immegration" coming home

Sure you can take your camera / camcorder in hand luggage, as long as everything fits into the one hand luggage allowance requirement.
