I have a DVD RW drive and a CD RW drive on my computer, I used to copy my CD's using Pinnacle Instant copy. I tried to copy a CD yesterday and it read the CD (from the CD drive D) and then when it went to write the CD (on the DVD drive E) it came up with this message 'An error occured while writing track 1 at... DVDRW416 (E:) NOT READY: MEDIUM NOT PRESENT.
I then ripped the CD to Windows Media player and tried to burn it using the CD drive and I get this error message 'Please insert a blank disc in CD drive (D:) Once Windows media player detects a new disc, it will automatically start burning'.
It is a Philips DVDRW416 and a HL-DT-ST-CD-RW GCE-8483B, I run Windows XP, use firefox and the only change is that I recently upgraded to Windows Media Player 11 - could this be connected?
I have checked in device manager and it says both devices are working properly, I am using the same discs, Imation, as I always have done.
Any ideas greatfully received! P.S Am not a complete technophobe but if anybody is going to suggest anything complicated step by step instructions would be fantastic, Thanks!

I would uninstall both drives, then when you boot up Windows will reinstall them.Next is a defrag.0
-
Thanks imho, do I do that through device manager and click 'uninstall'?0
-
best defrag is Diskeeper0
-
thanks tigs78
Your post reminded me that the exact same thing happened to me before xmas when i was copying to my mp3 player also using pinnacle, but as i went on hols had forgotten to sort it out.
will try the other posters advice"A bargain is something you can't use at a price you can't resist." Franklin Jones0 -
I like this one best http://www.iobit.com/
But Diskeeper is ok,i have the pro version, and i put iobit on my friends computer and you can schedule it to come on when you want it to0 -
Downloading iobit now!0

tigs78.Bet you like it !0

Wow, that's impressive! iobit found 34000 problems in the second category  Thought my security and anti virus (Zone Alarm Firewall, Avast anti virus, running CCleaner and Spybot periodically) was fairly good.0

tigs78.What did you use ? you must have used the "windows advanced care " thats ok,thats a good program as well.Did you scroll down the page and find the defragment program they do as well ?
How you get on with your disc drives ?0 -
Hmmn, strange. I did the 'Windows advanced care' one (didn't see the defrag thing:o ). Hadn't uninstalled the drivers as have never done that before so was waiting for a reply to my 2nd post....
Just successfully copied a CD using Pinnacle so whatever the Windows advanced care thing did - it worked! Thankyou :T
Should I still do the 'defrag' one aswell though?0
